Société des Lunetiers.
Paris, rue Pastourelle s.d., (1924).
(28 x 20 cm). 316-615pp., with several hundred illustrations in text. Housed in the original cardboard shipping box with the recipient’s name and address. Bound in the publisher’s original full green canvas with brass screws that allow new pages to be added or old pages to be removed. Laid in are two detailed price lists for the items illustrated in the main catalog. A near fine copy.

Beautiful copy of an important catalog of a manufacturer of scientific, optical and precision devices. Each item and piece of equipment offered is precisely described and indexed. Magnifying glasses, wire counters, microscopes, binoculars, tacheometers, "Murer" cameras, stereoscopes, barometers, measuring rulers, drawing tools, levels, theodolites, numerous types of compasses, etc. The adjustable binding and the pagination, which begins on p. 316, suggests that the volume was kept up to date and new items were added according to their availability.

Founded in 1849, the Société des Lunetiers united numerous instrument makers whose overlapping skills were combined to make the firm a leader in manufacturing optical and other instruments. The firm exists to this day, now known as Essilor, a manufacturer known of eyeglass lenses.
